Salary Range: $65k-105k


Position Overview

The Project Engineer supports the Project Manager in coordinating, planning, and organizing project operations. This role involves managing project documentation, tracking changes, and ensuring seamless coordination between various stakeholders.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Responsibilities vary by experience level, with additional duties assigned as needed.

Level 1 Responsibilities:

  1. Gather required information for material selection, dimensions, and third-party or owner-provided specifications.
  2. Track jobsite documentation, including RFIs, ASIs, and project changes.
  3. Coordinate with other trades and ensure proper documentation.
  4. Prepare submittals, schedules, and operation & maintenance (O&M) manuals.
  5. Estimate, count, and prepare change orders.
  6. Maintain QA procedures, logs, and issue tracking.
  7. Attend project meetings as assigned.

Level 2 Responsibilities (in addition to Level 1):

  1. Order, release, receive, and track materials and tool orders.
  2. Update project drawings with revised information.
  3. Estimate, prepare, and track change orders.
  4. Develop, implement, and monitor QA procedures.

Level 3 Responsibilities (in addition to Level 1 & 2):

  1. Oversee change management, including estimating and tracking change orders, implementing changes, and effectively communicating them to field teams and clients.
  2. Review project modifications to accurately capture added costs.
  3. Manage project schedules, subcontracting, and performance tracking.
  4. Monitor subcontractor and vendor performance.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, candidates must meet the following requirements:

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma required.
  • Two-year college degree or technical certification preferred.
  • Minimum two years of relevant experience in construction or project coordination.

Technical Skills

  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and technical documents.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and project management software.
  • Strong mathematical skills, including basic arithmetic and unit conversions.

Computer Skills

  • Level 1: Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office and project management tools.
  • Level 2: Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, and estimating software, with a focus on financial and labor tracking.
  • Level 3: Expertise in Microsoft Office, estimating, financial management, and labor tracking software.

Certificates & Licenses

  • No specific certifications required.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Level 1: No supervisory responsibilities.
  • Level 2: May oversee Level 1 Project Engineers.
  • Level 3: May oversee Level 1 and Level 2 Project Engineers.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Occasional exposure to active construction sites and outdoor weather conditions.
  • Moderate noise levels, with variations depending on the project environment.
  • Frequent standing, walking, sitting, and use of hands for handling materials and documentation.
  • Ability to lift up to 10 lbs frequently and 25 lbs occasionally.
  • Requires close vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
